Paper-thin dough, stretched by hand and baked into a flaky, buttery pie — savory with meats and cheese, or sweet with custard, Nutella and nuts. The way it's made back home in Alexandria.
Mum Feteer is an Egyptian café in Astoria's Steinway community, dedicated to one iconic dish: feteer, the layered, flaky pastry-pie whose roots go back to Ancient Egypt.
Every feteer is handmade and stretched by feteer master Ahmed Saber, who learned the craft in Alexandria. Choose it savory or sweet, customize the toppings, and round out the table with Egyptian classics like hawawshi, macaroni béchamel and om ali.
Every feteer is stretched by hand by our feteer master — it's a show worth watching.

The dough is worked and rolled out by hand.

Stretched until it's thin enough to see through.

Filled and folded into dozens of buttery layers.

Baked until golden, then topped and served hot.
A few themes that come up again and again in reviews.
Guests describe the feteer as crisp, layered and full of flavor — often compared to an Egyptian calzone or pizza.
The Nutella-with-nuts and custard feteers and the om ali get special praise for dessert.
Reviewers highlight friendly, attentive service and a clean, spacious dining room.
